The best racing crews are not assembled from strangers every Saturday morning.

They develop.

They learn how each other works. They communicate more clearly. Manoeuvres become smoother. Decisions become faster. Small mistakes disappear and boat speed begins to feel natural.

By joining for the full Coastal Series, you will become part of the core Bossy Boots race team.

You will rotate through the key positions aboard:

• Helm

• Mainsail trim

• Headsail trim

• Tactics and navigation

• Foredeck and manoeuvres

You will not just sit on the rail as a passenger.

You will sail the boat, make decisions and contribute to the result.

The 2027 campaign

Practice Weekend

13-14 March 2027

A dedicated introduction and training weekend before the racing season begins.

This is our opportunity to get to know one another, become familiar with Bossy Boots, establish crew roles and practise the key manoeuvres we will use throughout the campaign.

Easter Coastal Weekend

26–28 March 2027

Two destinations and three coastal races.

Three days to begin building the team, establish roles and start the season properly.

Lonely Tower and Great Escape

10–11 April 2027

Two separate races over one weekend, combining close Solent competition with tactical coastal sailing.

Yarmouth Weekend

24–25 April 2027

Cowes to Yarmouth on Saturday, followed by the return race to Cowes on Sunday.

Short courses, strong tides and little room for mistakes.

Weymouth

5-6 June 2027

A longer coastal race along the south coast, bringing together navigation, changing conditions, endurance and boat speed.

Poole Weekend

18–19 September 2027

Cowes to Poole on Saturday, with the return race on Sunday.

A late-season opportunity to turn everything we have learned into a polished team performance.

Lymington Weekend

2–3 October 2027

Cowes to Lymington followed by the final return race of the season.

Two final starts. Two final chances to perform. One proper end to the campaign.

Race formats and arrangements remain subject to JOG’s final Notice of Race and any subsequent changes made by the organisers.

About JOG

The Junior Offshore Group—better known as JOG—has been organising competitive yacht racing since 1950. It was originally formed to give smaller yachts the opportunity to race offshore and continues to make high-quality coastal and offshore racing accessible to a broad range of sailors.

JOG racing combines close competition with destination sailing and a friendly, supportive club atmosphere. Its programme includes shorter coastal races around the Solent and south coast, alongside longer offshore races across the English Channel. Races are sailed under the World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing, the IRC Rule and JOG’s own race documents and sailing instructions.

The Navaia Coastal Campaign will enter the published 2027 JOG Coastal Series aboard Bossy Boots. Navaia is an independent sailing company and is not part of, endorsed by or affiliated with the Junior Offshore Group. Visit the official JOG website

What you will gain

Racing accelerates learning.

You begin to notice details that are easy to miss when cruising: changes in pressure, the shape of a sail, the cost of a slow tack, the effect of tide across a course and the importance of clear communication.

Across the season, we will work on:

• Starts and positioning

• Upwind boat speed

• Sail trim and balance

• Tidal strategy

• Spinnaker handling

• Mark roundings

• Efficient tacks and gybes

• Navigation and tactical decision-making

• Communication under pressure

• Reviewing performance and improving between races

You do not need to arrive as an experienced racer.

You do need to be willing to participate, learn and commit to the team.

The boat

Bossy Boots — Contessa 32

A small boat with a serious reputation.

The Contessa 32 is one of Britain’s best-known offshore designs: balanced, responsive and immensely rewarding to sail well.

Bossy Boots has been extensively upgraded, including a new mast, new rudder, modern electronics and a competitive sail wardrobe.

She will not disguise poor sailing behind unlimited speed.

Every clean tack matters.

Every good start matters.

Every small gain is earned.

That makes her an exceptional boat on which to learn how to race properly.

What to Bring

Pack light. Bring presence.

Essentials:

• Layers, waterproofs, and something warm

• Swimwear and towel (for the brave!)

• Comfortable deck shoes or boots

• Journal, pen, and an open mind

• A book, or nothing at all

• We’ll provide lifejackets, nourishing food, and everything else you need

FAQ

Q: Do I need racing experience?
No. Some previous sailing experience is helpful, but you do not need to have raced before. You will receive practical coaching throughout the season and gradually take on different roles aboard.

Q: Do I need to attend every race?
Crew members should intend to attend all six race weekends. The value of the campaign comes from building a consistent team, learning the boat and improving together across the season. However in case you need to miss a race or two we find a solution.

Q: Will we stay overnight on the boat?
This varies between events. Some weekends may involve basic accommodation aboard Bossy Boots, while on others you may prefer to arrange accommodation ashore. Travel and accommodation are not included in the campaign price.

Q: What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety always comes first. JOG may postpone, shorten or cancel a race, and Navaia Ltd may decide not to participate if conditions are unsuitable. Where practical, we may replace cancelled racing with useful training, but this cannot be guaranteed.

Q: Can I join on my own?
Yes. Most crew members join individually. The campaign is designed to bring together a small group who want to learn, contribute and become a proper race team.

Q: Is this training or competitive racing?
Both. We will race seriously and aim for the best result we can, but every event will also be an opportunity to develop your boat handling, sail trim, tactics, navigation and teamwork.
